About Schillwerk
A small, deliberate technology practice. Founded in 2026, based in Colorado, engaged with clients across industries.
The short version
Schillwerk was founded by Andrew Schilling after years of building and shipping software across various industries and stages. The name pairs the founder's surname with the German werk — "work" or "works" — a nod to engineering as a craft.
The practice was built around a simple observation: clients consistently get the best results when they work directly with the engineer doing the work. No translation layer between strategy and execution. No surprises about who actually shows up to the project.
We take on a small number of engagements at a time, on purpose. Depth over volume.

Cloud, Infrastructure & Data
AI & ML
Beyond calling hosted AI APIs: hands-on experience pulling and running open models, working at the tokenization layer, fine-tuning and adapting models to specific tasks, and packaging inference into containerized, deployable applications — including AI that runs entirely inside your own infrastructure.
Working principles
// be honest, even when it's awkward
If a project shouldn't ship, we'll say so. If the right answer is "you don't need us," we'll say that too.
// simple beats clever
Cleverness has a maintenance tax. The team inheriting the code matters as much as the code itself.
// security is not an add-on
Threat modeling and secure defaults built into the work from day one. Bolted-on security is theatre.
// AI is a tool, not a strategy
We use AI heavily and ship faster for it. We won't sell you "AI" as a category. We'll ship the actual feature.
